To pick up from yesterday, Sue and I had just finished restoring the historic Heater House in downtown Cary, NC. We had maxed out credit cards and equity lines of credit to restore this home. We loved this home and the history and we bought it to live in forever! We knew what the bible says about debt, Roman 13:8 "owe no man any thing except love."
and Proverbs 22:7 says "The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower [is] servant to the lender."
We said OK let's do this. We had been debt free before in o6' but then bought this home and went right back in! Reluctantly we said let's sell this home, pay off our debt and see what happens next. That sounded easy enough right?
Meanwhile, I was working for a custom home builder in the Cary area managing the building process and very, very "comfortable".I had a great home, great job and great family. As good as these things seemed to me I was still unhappy because really all except my family was not fulfilling. I knew Sue and I both had special gifts (everyone has spiritual gifts) as listed in 1 Cor 12:1-31. We knew that until we started using these gifts life would be an empty and unfulfilling one.
Let me also say, at one point we got behind on our debt payments until God answered out prayer and gave me that home building job. I had been out of work for about 8 months. I had been in Property Management for 10 years until I was let go after my last property sold to a new owner right after we closed on the restoration home.
I was shocked and depressed and lost a lot of confidence from the job loss and frankly I was burned out from managing rental properties.
Back to the getting out of debt thing and the house...... We finished restoring the house, 175K worth of work done mostly all by myself, and put the house on the market. I listed the house myself since I am a real estate broker and said let's see what happens. Stay tuned Sunday for more.
